Mardi Gras. 30 minutes in the life. February 2019

"Thirty Minutes in the Life" will feature ladies from around the world as we capture 30 minutes in our lives as mothers, wives, daughters, sisters and friends {and photographers}. This is a blog circle so please be sure to visit the next photographer in the circle.

It's that time of year so we gathered up our three oldest grandchildren and headed to my brother's house in Slidell for the Krewe of Poseidon Mardi Gras parade! We've never been to one of these parades, but it won't be the last one! We had so much fun!

It was a family affair with lots of my family there. The kids were a little reserved at the beginning, but it didn't take long until they had this thing figured out!

To be perfectly honest, I wasn't sure how these images would turn out but they have been exactly what I wanted to capture so that we could remember the weekend.

Most every float was at least two levels high with tons of beads and toys being thrown out to the crowd. Just look cute and yell loudly and you were sure to get a huge bag full!

......waiting for the parade to begin. My brother had decked them all out with glowing jewelry, swords, and bags for the loot.

The bands and dance teams were awesome.

...but sometimes a little too loud for the kids!

Oh, my! There were some really fun folks in the parade! These were the 610 Stompers!

My brother and his father in law knew people all along the parade and if you got close enough, they'd give you special things like crowns, stuffed animals, or in the case of one of our grandsons...a spear!

The colors were magical and each float had it's own theme.

It didn't take long until they figured out what drew the attention! They were loving it!

I'm certain we'll be back next year...and I'll be sure to get pictures of the food and the totally delicious King Cake! A special thanks to my brother and his in-laws for hosting our huge group!
